Be a light in this world

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” –Jesus Christ

I don’t know if you’ve ever realised this but Jesus actually wants us to be seen in and by the world around us. You cannot hide a city on a hill because of its light, and in the same way our lives cannot and should not be hidden either.

In fact, Jesus calls YOU a light of the world, which means we have all the qualities of light.  And we all know that light does many things, most of all take away darkness.

When will shine in the way that Jesus intended us to shine, God is always on the receiving end at some point. Lives get restored, people find hope, healing occurs, faith is found and forgiveness restores relationships.

So we must all ask ourselves — how am I a light in this world?

Am I like a town built on a hill that cannot be hidden and a lamp put on a stand to give light to everyone in the house? Or have I put my light under a bowl?

Let’s commit ourselves today, and every day, to be a light in this world.

So whether I am paid or not, whether I am working out in the world or planting my own garden, I commit to being the light in my world and I dedicate whatever I am doing today to the uplifting of people and all things. Let’s pray to God for guidance in how to make the activity of my mind and work of my hands be of service to the healing of the world.

Let’s remember today that there is only one work: to be who I am capable of being, to do what I am capable of doing to make the world a better place — and Jesus reminded us that not only are we capable, but we are the light of the world.

Remember today, YOU are a light of the world.  So may your life be of use to something greater than yourself, that you may feel the joy of being used as you shine brighter and brighter in a seemingly dark world.

May following be your prayer as well,

Dear God,

Today I dedicate all I am and all that I have to you, that you might use me as a conduit of your power and love. Illumine my mind and increase my understanding, hone my personality and deepen my skills, that all I am and do might shine in such a way that it glorifies your presence in this world. It is so.  Amen.

Now, go and shine my Friend!
